Cair Paravel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cair Paravel is the castle where the Kings and Queens of Narnia rule in The Chronicles of Narnia. It was the location of the four thrones of King Peter Pevensie, Queen Susan Pevensie, King Edmund Pevensie and Queen Lucy Pevensie.

Cair Paravel was built some time before the Golden Age of Narnia, possibly by King Frank and Queen Helen. When the four Pevensie children entered Narnia and became Kings and Queens of the country after the defeat of the White Witch, Cair Paravel became the seat of the court of the High King Peter.

At the time of Miraz the Usurper, Cair Paravel was a ruin on an island at the point where the Great River of Narnia flowed into the Eastern Ocean. Caspian X had rebuilt the castle by the end of his reign as told in the Silver Chair.

In the time of King Tirian, Cair Paravel was surrounded by a city and was eventually sacked by the Tisroc of Calormen. The Tisroc had little time to enjoy his prize, however, as a short time after the conquest of Narnia by the Calormenes, the whole world of Narnia ceased to exist.
