Caesar cut

The Caesar cut is a men's hairstyle, with a short, horizontally straight cut fringe. The hair is layered to around 1 to 2 inches all over. It is named after Julius Caesar, whose images frequently depict him wearing his hair in such a manner.
For American youths of the 1990s, it is also called a Clooney cut, because it was worn by actor George Clooney on the TV show ER.
An alternate version of the Caesar cut, worn primarily by African-American men, is a short men's cut with a defined edge line on all sides of the head. When cut in this way (1 inch max.) and gelled or waxed to give extra definition, it is called a French Crop. This particular style was popular amongst British males in the mid 1990s.
A key distinction between the Caesar cut and the French crop is that the Casear cut is cut to the same length all over, where the French crop is usually worn with shorter sides and longer bangs or fringe. In the UK, a gelled French crop became associated with young hedonistic men or Chavs.
The true Caesar cut has conversely remained popular as a haircut worn by men concerned with classic styling, particularly with British males. A short version became popular following the inclusion of the style in various science fiction television shows such as the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. This variation of the style is cut to a British grade 4-5 (all over) and matt waxed to create a textured, rugged finish.
