Do the math, 533k*1800=~960M Or am I missing something? VdSV9 14:26, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Probably +/- 533 kV - double the line-to-line voltage but each pole only withstands 533 kV to earth. --Wtshymanski 02:13, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that is the case. The system has two monopolar and (almost) independent lines; each of them can operate at +/-533KV at 1800A. Each line can carry up to 960MW. Usually they are operated at symmetric volatges in order to reduce the current and subsequent corrosion effects in the earth electrode; but at least in theory they can be both operated at positive or negative voltages (altough not at full power, since the earth electrode would not withstand the full 3600A that would arise in this case).
