[edit] Move Request

It was requested that this article be renamed but the procedure outlined at WP:RM#How to request a page move did not appear to be followed, and consensus could not be determined. Please request a move again with proper procedure if there is still a desire for the page to be moved. Thank you for your time! -- tariqabjotu 21:21, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Move request fixed

The result of the debate was NO CONSENSUS for page move, per discussion below. I did go ahead and change the "CF" to "C.F." There are articles using quotation marks in the title - see some here, but there doesn't seem to be consensus in this case. If there are other football club articles using «» marks in the title, then there might be a much better case for renaming this page. -GTBacchus(talk) 22:28, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

CF Os BelenensesC.F. «Os Belenenses» – This is the correct form for a football club in wikipedia. The «» are the official form used by the club. (You can check in its home page) Joaopais 23:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Oppose, we don't always use the exact official name for the title of the page, (though we do in the lead) and this seems like a good time not to. I can't think of any other articles that have quotation marks in the title, either the " kind or the >> kind, it would just be too distracting, IMO. Recury 00:10, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Recury. The quotations are ugly in general, and the ones proposed are extremely ugly (and not used in English AFAICT). Duja 13:36, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose As per naming conventions, it is not part of Latin alphabet. Wirbelwind 04:22, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion

Recury, I understand your concern but the marks are needed here. The club name is Clube de Futebol «Os Belenenses», meaning Football Club [that is named] "Those from Belém". If Manchester United were officially renamed "The Reds" they would be "The Reds" Football Club. Joaopais 23:36, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

I think you have proven that the official name uses the quotation marks. I just disagree that we have to use the exact official name in the title of the article here. Recury 16:52, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
That said, we still need to change "CF" to "C.F." Recury 19:44, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
