C. W. Ceram

C. W. Ceram (January 20, 1915 - April 12, 1972) was the pseudonym of Kurt Wilhelm Marek, a German journalist and author known for his works in popular Archaeology. He is born in Berlin in World War I In 1949, he wrote his most famous book,"Götter, Gräber und Gelehrten" Gods, Graves and Scholars: the Story of Archaeology, the classic account of the historical development of archaeology published over five million times in 28 languages and still in print. Ceram wrote rambling narratives of famous archaeologist-explorers, exciting discoveries and other fascinating hidden clues to the past in the romance of archaeology. Other books by the author include The Secret of the Hittites, March of Archaeology and The First American.
From 1947 onwards he was chief lector for Rowohlt Verlag. In 1953 he moved to the USA. In 1972 he died in Hamburg. His widow was still alive in 2002 and lived in Hamburg
