In the computer game World of Warcraft, C'Thun is one of five known "Old Gods" indigenous to the land of Azeroth in the Warcraft universe. The Old Gods were said to be beings of unimaginable evil and power that ruled before the coming of the Titans. He is the creator of the Azi-Aqir, an insectoid race that eventually split into the Nerubians and the Qiraji.
C'thun appears as the final boss encounter in the 40-man dungeon, The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. He appears in two different forms over the course of the battle, first as the enormous Eye of C'Thun, and then appearing fully in all his horrific glory.
Holding true to Chris Metzen's lore, C'Thun was the most powerful boss monster to appear within the game world of World of Warcraft at the time of his release, usurping the former "final boss," Nefarian, the black dragon. However, C'Thun himself is trumped by the final bosses of the Necropolis Naxxramas dungeon, which is greater in difficulty than the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.
The fight with C'Thun is composed of two phases: a great, lidless eye (the Eye of C'thun) and a hideous mass of flesh and tentacles (the central body). In the first phase, the Eye of C'Thun attacks by spawning tentacles which attack those trying to defeat him, and through two types of beams. One, the green Eye Beam, strikes a single target and bounces to a nearby person, doubling in damage each time it bounces(an attack observed to have done over 5 million damage by doubling repeatedly). Another beam, the red Dark Glare, emanates from the Eye of C'thun as it rotates slowly, and hits anyone caught in if for about 50k damage. However, it can be resisted. Upon defeating the Eye of C'thun, the second phase (the central body) immediately begins.
C'Thun's central body is initially very hard to damage (99% damage reduction), however, C'Thun will frequently spawn fanged tentacles that will swallow random members of the raid group. Swallowed members will find themselves in C'Thun's stomach (represented by a separate room altogether) filled with digestive juices that will quickly dissolve them (represented by a powerful Damage over Time debuff). Escaping from C'Thun's stomach is simply a matter of swimming towards one of three "islands" (one of which contains a black exit point). Two Flesh Tentacles are present in the stomach, and if they are destroyed, C'Thun's outer-body will become vulnerable for 45 seconds and the raid will be able to fully damage it. C'Thun eventually regenerates his defenses and the process of attacking his stomach must be repeated. During this entire process, C'Thun will spawn regular Eye Tentacles, Giant Eye Tentacles and Giant Claw Tentacles to attack the raid.
