César Sampaio

César Sampaio , full name Carlos Campos César Sampaio , (born March 31, 1968 in São Paulo) is a former Brazilian football player. He played centre midfield for Palmeiras and the Brazilian national team. He also scored the first goal in the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
He received the Bola de Ouro (Brazilian Golden Ball award) in 1990 and 1993.

He won 40 caps for Brazil. In the World Cup 1998 he scored the first goal of the tournament against Scotland with a header, and got two more against Chile in the second round. He played in every game as Brazil reached the final, where they lost 3-0 to France.
