In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, Bywater is a village in the Shire, lying within the Westfarthing near Hobbiton, and along Bywater Road. Bywater was located on The Water, a small stream that ran through part of the Shire, and where the village takes its name from. It was home to the famous Green Dragon Inn.

Bywater was the site of the Battle of Bywater on November 3, T.A. 3019.
