Byron Roberts (aka "Lord Byron") is the singer for the British symphonic extreme metal band Bal-Sagoth. Hailing from Yorkshire, England, Byron graduated from college with a Degree in English.

Byron formed Bal-Sagoth in 1993 in an attempt to form what he called "A sublimely symphonic black/death metal band swathed in a concept of dark fantasy/science-fiction and ancient myth & legendary." Drawing inspiration from such writers as Robert E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Frank Herbert, J.R.R. Tolkien, Shakespeare, Arthur C. Clarke, David Gemmell, George Lucas, and Stan Lee, Byron set out to create his own dark fantasy universe, with tales told through the music of Bal-Sagoth. Dubbed "The Multiverse", the lyrical world of Bal-Sagoth is a vast landscape of fantasy/science fiction, ranging from intergalactic tales of gods and cosmic empires, to sword and sorcery style epic battles.

Byron's original vocal style combines black metal screams with a pitched-down "narrarator's" voice, allowing dialoge between characters, and giving the vocals a "light and dark" contrasting feel.

Byron creates all the concepts, storylines, characters, places and lyrics for Bal-Sagoth. He designed the logos, the album cover concepts, and also plans to publish a Bal-Sagoth comic book further detailing the vast sories of the Multiverse.

Byron is also sponsored by an arms and armour supplier, Battle Orders Ltd., who supply him with the swords and other reenactment materials that he uses on stage and in publicity photos.
