BYOB

For the System of a Down song, see B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs).

B.Y.O.B. is an acronym for "bring your own bottle", "bring your own beer" or "bring your own booze". The acroynm was first recorded in the 1800s, and is usually used to indicate that the host of a party or social gathering will not be providing alcoholic beverages, but that guests are welcome to bring their own if they choose to do so.[1]

For a gathering where food is obviously going to be present, such as a BBQ, B.Y.O.B. is understood to mean that the host will not be providing alcoholic beverages, but will be providing food, unless explicitly stated otherwise, such as "bring something to BBQ".
