[edit] Local government
Byfleet was an ancient parish, and was included as a civil parish in the Chertsey Rural District from 1894 to 1933, before then being added to the Woking urban district in 1933 under a County Review Order, thus extinguishing its parish council.
Byfleet constitutes a civil parish and so has a parish council. The current parish was formed in 1989 [1].
In May 2003, a group standing under an "Abolish Byfleet Parish Council" banner won election to the Parish Council and proceeded to seek its abolition. [2]
In June 2005 The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister refused to abolish the parish, despite its request. [3].

[edit] The people of Byfleet
One prominent member of the Byfleet community is a cat. She is a strange little chap that can be spotted often waddling around the Tesco and M+S area's. She has a reputation for occasional purring with some general vomiting thrown in. If you see her give a stroke or a boot. Its nice being cruel.
Also, look out for John Robshaw, he's big fat, salty and white. He also smells like vintage faecal. He once ate a house because the look of it didn't agree with him.
James Winter - Once drank all the water in Byfleet dry, he did so in protest of the rising risks of being attacked by the ghost of that guy who used to be in Blue Peter and died of cancer, yeah, him. 304 children cried.
