Buzz of death

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The buzz of death denotes a floppy disk error. It happens when a distinctive buzzing noise comes out of the floppy drive when copying a file or formatting the disk. It often happens at the end of a floppy disk's reliability to copy data. It can also indicate problems with the floppy drive.

[edit] Cause

When a floppy disk is consistently used, data from previous files may interfere with data or demagnetized segments will interfere with the data wanted to be copied. When this happens the drive searches for the lost segments, causing a distinctive "buzzing" noise to come out of the floppy drive.
