This butterfly network was first introduced in "Network information flow," IEEE Transaction on Information Theory by Prof. R. Ahlswede, Dr. N. Cai, Prof. S.-Y. R. Li and Prof. R. W. Yeung. It has been regarded as one of the most prominent network in the field of Network Coding.
