Butler Elementary School (Arlington, Texas)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Butler Elementary School is an elementary school located in Arlington, Texas and is part of the Arlington Independent School District.
Butler opened in the Fall of 1975. The school's name honors educators Nora and Pearl Butler, sisters who worked in Arlington's schools for many years.
The school principal is Sara Coulter.
Years before the recognition of Attention Deficit Disorder issues, Butler Elementary began as an "open concept" school, with grades one through six in one large "room" of the building. Each grade level was "divided" by rolling bookcases about five feet high and more of these bookcases were used to lightly subdivide each "classroom" within a grade level. Teachers' desks were in a cluster in the center of the grade level area. As a result of the layout, the air conditioning in the building was generally terrible.
Succeeding years saw the addition of smaller classrooms added for grades one through three as the experiment of "open concept" was beginning to fizzle.
