The suburb has developed swiftly since 2002 and has over 1000 households and many thriving local organisations. The wide footpaths, tree plantings and many parks of the suburb have contributed to its success - even though it is over 40km to the north of the City of Perth.

Part of the success of the suburb has been the infrastructure that has accompanied development including bus and high speed train services to the city from the nearby station of Clarkson.

Butler-Brighton has been particularly popular with immigrants, mostly from the United Kingdom but also from South Africa, New Zealand, West and Central Africa and South America.
