Business coaching
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Business coaching focuses on helping a business owner to create a distinctive business plan with its own identity. Business coaching can operate in any segment of commerce, from traditional businesses to entrepreneurial start-ups to e-businesses.
There are different models of helping individuals with their management process whether with business startups or within established enterprises. Business coaching is distinct because it involves teaching and direction via encouragement and advice (a specialist version of personal or life coaching). It is likely to focus on the individual. There's said to be 10 000 business coaches in the US today.
There is also business mentoring[1]. This involves a developmental relationship between a more experienced mentor and a less experienced partner. It is almost certain to focus on the individual. In the US, for example, there is an organization called SCORE [2], a corps of retired business executives available to mentor.
To further put business coaching in perspective, there is also business consulting which involves the provision of expert advice to a business in a particular area of expertise. This is likely to be project rather than process oriented.
Business coaching can also apply to any model of business. For instance, the "franchise" model has the end goal establishing defined processes that allow the entrepreneur to separate him/herself from the business.
