How embarrassing - we've had the first name of the main character wrong since it was added almost 18 months ago! Thanks to "User:Doctofero" for spotting it! - DavidWBrooks 17:33, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Not sure where anyone got the idea that his name is James. If you don't have a copy on hand, pull up Burmese Days on books.google.com and search for John Flory. Tyler 15:42, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I have a copy and I could have sworn it does say "James"; I'll check tonight - as does this Amazon link [1] and several other links I could find (e.g., [2]). On the other hand, I found other links, more of them I think, that say it's "John"; is it possible the name was different in different printings? - DavidWBrooks 16:05, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Here's a link [3] that uses BOTH James Flory AND John Flory in different places! - DavidWBrooks 16:07, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

OK, I checked my edition - a 1962 paperback printing by Harcourt Brace - and it's James, not John. So I guess I'll edit the article to reflect this uncertainty. - DavidWBrooks 21:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
