Burt Neuborne

Burt Neuborne is a nationally renowned civil liberties defender. Professor Neuborne has acted as lead counsel in the recent Holocaust Litigation against the Swiss Banks. A former National Legal Director of the American Civil Liberties Union, he is currently on the faculty of New York University School of Law and Legal Director of the Brennan Center for Justice. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School from where he received an LL.B in 1964.
According to "The Jewish Chronicle", 19/05/2006; "Neuborne has applied for $4.1 million in fees - charging $700 an hour - for work he did in applying a complex $1.2 billion legal settlement against the Swiss banks. Some Holocaust survivor organisations in the US have filed an objection to Professor Neuborne's claim, suggesting that he had announced that he was ready to work pro bono (free). Leo Rechter, of the National Association of Jewish Child Holocaust Survivors, called the fees claim "a mockery" and "tragicomic." But an angry Professor Neuborne told the JC that the criticism was "absolutely unwarranted" "[1]
