[edit] History

The station's name was originally a corruption of "Burrswood", being misspelt by the station sign's painters in 1893 when the railway was first built.[1] It (and the area) were renamed Rivervale in 1921 in part due to the public's association of Burswood with sewerage processing[2]; however, after the Burswood Resort and Casino were built in 1985, the situation was reversed and the name reverted. Rivervale has survived as a suburb name 600 m east of the station.
