Burrill Phillips

Burrill Phillips (November 9, 1907June 22, 1988) is an American composer born in Omaha, Nebraska. Perhaps his best known work is Selections from McGuffey's Reader , settings of three 19th century American poems. The first movement, "The One Horse Shay", is based on a work by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., while the second and third, "John and Priscilla Alden" and "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere", are based on works by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
