Burnside, South Lanarkshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Burnside is an area of South Lanarkshire. It is part of Rutherglen on the outskirts of Glasgow. It is a relatively quiet location, and borders with Cambuslang, Blairbeth, Fernhill and Eastfield.
Burnside main street is home to a Somerfield supermarket and bus stops with services between East Kilbride and Glasgow. Burnside railway station, as part of the Cathcart Circle Lines, is served by half-hourly, seven-day services between Newton and Glasgow Central station via Mount Florida or Langside. The area is also served by Burnside Primary School, Stonelaw High School and Burnside Blairbeth Church.
Previously, Burnside had its own cinema on Stonelaw Road, the Rhul Cinema. Built in 1932 by the Burnside Picture House Company, the cinema was sold to ABC in 1936 and later demolished in 1960.[1][2] The space is currently occupied by the Somerfield store.
