Burgundy (color)

Burgundy is a shade of dark red associated with the Burgundy wine of the same name, which in turn is named after the Burgundy region of France. The color Burgundy is similar to other shades of dark red such as maroon.
The first recorded use of burgundy as a color name in English was in 1915. [1]

At right is displayed the color burgundy. This is a popular color in both men's and women's fashion, for furniture and for linens. The colour burgundy is also the colour of Blackpool Football Club's third team kit. This was chosen by latvian owner Valeri Belekon who wanted a kit which represented the flag of Latvia.

In cosmetology, a brighter shade of burgundy called vivid burgundy is used for dyeing hair. [1]

- Burgundy is the color used on some Folgers coffee cans.
- Venezuela's athletes traditionally wear burgundy uniforms in international competitions. This practice has earned them the nickname "Red Wine."
