The Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs was a predecessor agency of the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was formed as a subsidiary of the United States Department of Justice in 1968, combining the Bureau of Narcotics (under the United States Department of the Treasury) and Bureau of Drug Abuse Control (under the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare's Food and Drug Administration) into one agency. In 1973, it was merged into the newly-formed Drug Enforcement Administration.
