[edit] Construction

Current event marker
This article or section contains information about a planned or expected future road.
It may contain information of a speculative nature and the content may change dramatically as the road's construction and/or completion approaches and more information becomes available.

The avenue was constructed first from Kennedy Road to The Bridle Walk, then from The Bridle Walk to McCowan Road. From there, Bur Oak was expanded to Highway 48 to accommodate the new Wismer Common subdivision and then later extended yet again to Ninth Line. Another portion of Bur Oak, between Whites Hill and Church Street was already constructed with the Cornell subdivision. Eventually, Bur Oak was extended once again past Ninth Line, curving south toward 16th Avenue, intersecting it, and joined at Whites Hill Avenue. The portion of Bur Oak between 16th Avenue and Whites Hill was opened in October 2006. Currently, Bur Oak is being connected from Church Street to Highway 7.

[edit] Public Transit

YRT Route 18 (Bur Oak) runs Monday to Saturday from Angus Glen Community Centre to Markham-Stouffville Hospital. There are 4 other routes that use portions of Bur Oak Avenue, 8-Kennedy, 102D-Markham Road North, 401-Brother Andre High School Special via Bur Oak, and 403-Markham District High School Special. When Viva (Viva Purple, Viva Green and Viva Pink specifically) enters its second phase, the former Cornell station will be renamed to Bur Oak (proposed name).
