Hey Bunch, many many thanks for all your help in getting shoe polish to become a Featured article. With an awesome total of 15 support votes and zero opposes, shoe polish is now a featured article! Woohoohoo. Thanks, Proto t c 10:14, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Exicornt
Hi Bunchofgrapes, I am aware You posted a delete request on a page I submitted. I assume You did this because You might have found the page to be too confusing or probably because You didn't understand the term. I will try to keep to page up to avoid have the page disappear and reappear on the site. Deleting a page will only result in another user reposting, and theirfore I'm trying to fix the page so people can understand what the page is describing. -- EddieSegoura (talk) 7:29 PM, November 22, 2005 (EST)
[edit] EddieSegoura
Given what is happening in the Rfa's Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/EddieSegoura and now Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/EddieSegoura_2. Given that the word Exicornt appears made up. Given the use of sock puppets. Given the use of minor edit designation for major edits. I can't judge if most of his edits are correct/verifiable or not but the grammar is awful, almost intensional. Adding all these things together from a user who has only been around for less than a month shouldn't this users edits all be reverted as non verifiable? David D. (Talk) 01:41, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
- A "sockpuppet" is a person pretending to be someone else. Do I have to explain that I'm not another person again? EddieSegoura 05:58, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thank You
Thank you for complimenting me on my assuming good faith. I'm just trying to help users that are misguided, you can't just assume that they're horrible users and people, and don't understand, and then not help them. They have to be helped, even if they are the worst editors in the universe, they need help, they need some guiding, and I've decided that if its ever needed, I will try to provide that guiding. [edit] Hello
In regards to the Exicornt, I thought you might be interested in this link: http://www.nycsubway.org/maps/track -- Mr. Transit 16:24, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Conversation moved from User talk:EddieSegoura
Eddie, you promised, no more usernames. User:Mr. Transit's (contribs) first edit was to add something to Exicornt, and his second was to vote to merge at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Exicornt. Which makes it look like this is another account you created to try to keep the Exicornt page. You promised you wouldn't do that. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 16:26, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, if you read very closely, he's never promised that he would stop using sock puppets. In the above discussion with NSLE, Eddie wrote, "I didn't know editing under a second IP address or username could cause people to think of Me as someone like that. I will be using this name only until those names cleared of any tags." Eddie appears to state that he admits using sock puppets and will continue using them, although what it really means is up for interpretation. The first time I asked Eddie to stop using sock puppets was on Talk:Lists of tropical cyclone names, where he claimed that he shares "this computer with people who know about this site, so I asked them to make accounts also to avoid IP address conflicts." [1] Well, many of us have heard that explanation before and it just doesn't hold water. When I pushed Eddie further, he promised to try and login when making comments as Eddie Segoura [2] but he has never agreed to stop using sock puppets at any time. --Viriditas 21:46, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- Some of his socks are pretty obvious, isn't there someway to freeze those accounts? This type of disregard for the rules is exactly where wiki admins need to come down strong rather than pussy footing around trying to encourage Eddie.
- Eddie when you use you User:EddieSegoura account I will be happy to encourage you, but the socks have to go. Messing around with other peoples votes is obviously unacceptable too. To tell you the truth I am surprised you have not been banned for that already. Take a step back, get your evidence together and present your case. Using subterfuge will just piss everyone off, in fact, you already have pissed everyone off! David D. (Talk) 21:58, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- The problem I have with you is that every single time someone votes on Exicornt's keep/merge/deletion they're quick to assume it's Me! Don't You people know that ANYONE can vote on those pages? -- EddieSegoura 22:53, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- The chances of new users making one of their very first edits a vote on Exicornt are approximately zero. They are either you, friends of yours, or people out to get you in trouble for some very strange reason. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 22:56, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

Eddie has tried to close the Exicornt AfD as a "merge". [3] I have raised this issue on WP:ANI. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 22:58, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- I'm trying to get admin FreplySpang to settle this now before anyone gets hurt. I thought 5 days (Tuesday thru [[Saturday[[) passed and wanted to have it settled. I didn't know You'd personally get offeneded by it. -- EddieSegoura 23:14, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I don't have any more power to settle things than anyone else. As I said on WP:ANI, I do think the premature closure was an honest mistake. The rest of it? Unclear, but likely to become clearer in the next few days. FreplySpang (talk) 23:25, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

- Your very first edit was to vote "merge" in the AfD for Exicornt. That creates a strong suspicion that you may be a sockpuppet of the main defender of that page, EddieSegoura. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 01:14, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

- I certainly did. "Exicornt" doesn't seem to be a word, and Eddie has been strangely reluctant to provide sources for it. I'm sure, though, since you also know the word [4], you can recall where you learned it and tell us all about it. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 01:22, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

- It isn't generally considered vandalism to tag a sockpuppet page as being a sockpuppet page. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 20:17, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
- Explain this to me: what makes you claim that I'm a "sockpuppet"? Commenting on a deletion page isn't enough to justify this claim. Lets Go Yankees 20:25, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] An interesting question
Due to the most uttering-awesome work that you've exemplified on Black pepper—which will be the featured article on the main page this coming weekend—I was just curious to know if you wanted to work on an article together sometime. [edit] ATLAS revert
Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I decided not to keep changes, but many of them were by no means obvious; it was clearly written by someone who knew quite a bit. I put an explanation of each change and why I didn't keep it at Talk:ATLAS_experiment#Recent_reverted_changes, and left a note on the anon's talk page reffering them there. Thanks again. -- SCZenz 19:48, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, should be fixed now. I just wasn't very careful about which way some of the changes went, I guess. I've restored some of the anon's edits; see talk page. Thanks for paying more attention than I was.. ;) -- SCZenz 05:21, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your help. I will WP:AGF on User:Splash, but still would like confirmation that changing "Do not Delete" votes to "Keep" is really considered to be vandalism - IMO it definitely shouldn't be considered to be vandalism, because it goes against the spirit of Wikipedia to consider any attempts to make the encyclopaedia more readable to be vandalism. As you can imagine, whenever I am accused of vandalism, it doesn't sit too well with me. :) Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 00:38, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Yikes. That quickly spiralled out of control. I guess he is an admin, and admins stick together. LOL. I am finding this quite amusing, and might save the (il)logical arguments for later. Its funny how defensive people get. Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 01:29, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- It's not "vandalism", but is, I would have to agree with everyone else, very poor form indeed. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 02:34, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
It's poor form to clean up an article? I just made it more readable. Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 03:21, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- That's not an Article; that's a discussion. Cleaning up article... good. Cleaning up other people's messages... bad. This is a pretty easy distinction. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:29, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Hrm. Happens all the time on Wikipedia discussion forums. What's the problem? "Do not Delete" and "Keep" mean exactly the same thing. I was merely making it clearer. I changed it to a comment afterwards, but my comment was then vandalised by someone else. Zordrac (talk) Wishy Washy Darwikinian Eventualist 03:37, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- "Keep" means "keep". "Do not Delete" — in the context of an RfD — means "I haven't been around Wikipedia enough to see how things usually work at AfD, but I'm going to vote keep." Same meaning, different connotations. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:41, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Pepper
I'm speaking mostly out of experience. I can at least say with certainty for the Balkans that white pepper was virtually unheard of until recently and that the only pepper used in traditional cuisine, ground or whole, is black. The pepper served ground on the tables is always black. In my travels around Europe, I've never noticed white pepper on tables, and all the cooking shows I've seen on French, Italian and even German TV normally use black pepper. Zocky 04:22, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- In the meantime, I found an interesting page at [5], an excelent site about spices. It says: "Also white pepper is mainly used in Western cooking. It is often suggested for white (cream-based) sauces where black pepper could spoil the colour; sauce Béchamel is a typical example.", and then goes on to say "For all other purposes, black pepper is usually preferred. It is widely used in almost all cuisines of the world." I think that the writer of the site you found may have confused the first sentence (or a similar one from a different source) to mean "In Europe, white pepper is mostly used" instead of "White pepper is mostly used in Europe". Zocky 04:32, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- Having just read through the fine treatise of Black pepper and somewhatt accidentally the comments above, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents to see if I can shed any light on the subject. As Zocky states correctly above, white pepper is most often used when the dark flecks of black pepper would detract from a dish's appearance, as is the case with lightly-colored sauces. White pepper tends to be more subtle in flavor than black, and is ground much finer (it almost has the consistency of table salt). It is also MUCH more expensive than black pepper, and is usually available only in small packages (particularly at the retail level) whereas black pepper in either fine or coarse grind can be had in everything from individual serving packets up to (practically) 55-gallon drums; I would imagine cost would be at least one barrier to seeing this used as a table condiment. White pepper has seen a marked increase in use during recent years with the ever-expanding role of televised cooking shows (it is a culinary school "secret" that has now been borught to the attention of the general public). Hope this helps.--Lordkinbote 20:28, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] You're a sysop!
Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.
Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=Please also add your name to WP:LA =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:01, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

- You've probably already discovered that only deletion comes with a free confirmation screen, unfortunately. (And deleting a page to make way for a move.) Your view is the one everyone operates under, whether they know it or not; it is his project, and everyone else can fork or leave. What's really had me mad are the assumptions of iodiocy and bad faith people have been making about Jimbo in places like Talk:Alan Dershowitz.
