Bunce

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bunce is an ancient surname that derives its origins from the Anglo Saxon cultures of England. The unusual surname is adapted from the French word for good; "bon", with its distinct difference in spelling being due to the amalgamation of languages (Latin, Anglo-Saxon and French) that plagued England at the time of the name's creation. "Bunce" is therefore understood as meaning a jolly and good person.

The name is first recorded in Gloucestershire, where the original Bunce clan was believed to have been rooted for a long time, well before the Norman Conquests of 1066. Later generations of the Bunce dynasty settled all over the world, spreading the name to many different countries. Some of the first settlers include Joe Bunce who settled in Barbados in 1635[citation needed], Martin and Patrick Bunce settled in Philadelphia in 1858[citation needed], Richard Bunce setteld in New England in 1764 and recently Katie bunce residing in Surrey born in 1988, currently 18.[citation needed]
