The bullseye is the centre of a target (worth 10 points in archery or 25 points in darts), and by extension the name given to any shot that hits the bullseye. There is a common misconception that the bullseye in darts is worth 50, however the red center of the dart board is actually the double bullseye and worth 50. The green portion surrounding the red is the bullseye and worth 25 points.

Consequently, "hitting the bullseye" became a term for success.

The word bullseye can also refer to any design or pattern featuring prominent concentric circles, reminiscent of an archery target. Examples would be the old-fashioned hard candy with a pattern of black and white stripes that was popular in the UK, or the logo for Target Corporation.
