[edit] Help with Self-propelled artillery
Have you any time to put a bit of work into the above. I've done a bit of copyedit but the bit on Soviet Self-propelled needs work. I am acquainted with the SU guns but I know of no examples of Red Army guns like the Sexton (artillery) and I wondered if there was readily understandable reason why these were not developed. GraemeLeggett 13:48, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm neither an expert on Soviet SP artillery nor an experienced editor (which the article is in need of, IMHO), but I'll see what I can do.
- As for your question why Soviets didn't develop designated indirect fire SP guns... my "educated guess" is that Soviets tried to concentrate on a limited number of models and make them as universal as possible. It fitted their industry structure with relatively few relatively huge factories, it fitted the circumstances - the urgent need to outproduce the Germans despite lack of experienced workers, and of course it lessened maintenance problems.
- With towed guns it actually started before the war. Soviet divisional field artillery piece was not a designated indirect fire weapon such as American or German 105 mm pieces or to lesser degree the British 25 pounder, but a series of 76 mm guns such as the ZiS-3 which obviously had weaker HE shell but could be used as AT gun and was pretty decent in this role. Their corps-level (A-19) and army-level (ML-20) pieces were dual-purpose too, although more geared for the indirect fire. It continued with AFVs. Since Barbarossa, more or less every factory that was able to produce T-34, produced T-34 (with the exception of KV and later IS). Those that couldn't, produced light T-60/T-70. Armored cars, gun tractors etc were nearly abandoned. In 1942 Soviet started to launch large-scale offensives and recognized the need for more powerful assault guns so they developed the "naked ass Ferdinand" (oh, I like the sound of that...) SU-76 (ZiS-3 on modified T-70 chassis) and the SU-152 (ML-20 on KV chassis) and later the ISUs. Just like the towed guns they carried, these were built as all-purpose tools that could act both as assault guns (their primary role), as tank destroyers and as indirect fire artillery.
- So the short answer is: instead of building designated light assault gun, designated light SP artillery and designated light tank destroyer as separate vehicles, they merged them into one and called it SU-76 :). The same for heavy SU/ISU-152. Bukvoed 17:09, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ZiS-2 article improvent
- Приветствую!
- Не могли бы Вы отшлифовать англоязычный текст по ЗиС-2, который я в меру своих сил пытался перенести :из русской Вики?
- Наилучших пожеланий
- LostArtilleryman 04:59, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

- Сейчас взгляну. Хотя, наверное, шлифовку лучше было бы "поручить" тем, для кого английский - родной. Или по крайней мере тем, кто, в отличие от меня, сумел разобраться с артиклями :). Bukvoed 08:35, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Bukvoed 12:25, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

LostArtilleryman 13:06, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My Interest in Hebrew
Shalom aleichem שלום עליכם , Hi Bukvoed Can you help me please, Can you translate my name in Hebrew as I found an Interest in the language, my name is Abdullah Geelah, can you translate it in Hebrew plzzzzzzzz. --Abdullah Geelah 21:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- You mean you want to know how your name is written in Hebrew ? Well, Abdullah becomes עבדאללה . I'm not completely sure about the last name. Since I don't know how your last name is written in Arabic (and - more important - I cannot read Arabic anyway), and I'm even not sure how do you pronounce it, I can only guess. Perhaps גילה ?
- The direct translation of Abdullah ("servant of god" ?) to Hebrew probably would be עובד אלוהים (pronounced Oh-VED Eh-loh-HIM). Now the last name... Unfortunately I have no idea what it means.
- If you want to know what Hebrew name is the closest to yours in meaning, it's probably עובדיה (pronounced Oh-VAH-dee-ah, spelled Ovadiah or Ovadia or Obadiah or... , also meaning "servant of god"). Bukvoed 05:38, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:37mm m1930 (1-K) gun.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:37mm m1930 (1-K) gun.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] new toy
Kirill Lokshin and me have developed a new toy (discussion):
External images | |
---|---|
Front Rear |
Implemented in an article it can look like in Mongol bow (including some misunderstanding) or Indian Wars. While we (mostly me) think it is a great thing (contrary to the long frustrating negotiations for images that can not keep up with the rapid expansion of articles and new requests), it would require some people to use it and not overdo it. You just have to google missing images and insert the url with a short description. I would really appreciate it, especially for the feedback. Thank you a lot.
