Bukit Mertajam

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bukit Mertajam is a town in Central Seberang Perai, Penang, Malaysia. The historical St. Anne's Church is located in this town. The famous Jit Sin High School, which is among the top-performing schools in the country is in Bukit Mertajam. However, there are also other schools which are as good as Jit Sin such as BM High School which was the former school of our present Prime Minister.

Penang Bird Park, which is situated in Bukit Mertajam, houses as many as 3,000 birds from 300 species, half of which native to Malaysia, including ostriches, hornbills, sunbirds and parrots. The park spans 5 acres and features a walk-in aviary, pond with ducks and swans where water lilies flourish. It was officially opened by previous Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad on 26 November 1988.

Bukit Mertajam is also only a ferry ride away from the War Museum at Bukit Batu Maung, which was previously the site of a 1930s British fortress. The fortress was built to protect the Penang Island from its enemies. Another option is to drive using the bridge.
