In Tungus mythology, Buga is the supreme god (akin to Tengri) and represents the entire universe. "Buga" also means universe. Buga Sangarin is the name Tungus shamans give to the North Star, which is regarded as the gateway to heaven.American Airlines Flight 965 from Miami crashed into a mountain into this city on December 1995. All aboard died.

In Mexico the term "Buga" is used by the gay community and it means "heterosexual". A rarity that Buga is a gay community.
