Buffyverse chronology (canon only)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Introduction
This list orders many of Buffy/Angel related stories by the place which they chronologically fit into the Buffyverse. To see how the non-canon novels, comics and video games fit into the timeline, see the parent article: Buffyverse chronology. . Each story fits into one of the following categories. This list is one interpretation and is problematic in that the place of certain stories written by Mutant Enemy outside the TV shows have not clearly been accepted or rejected by fans.
- Buffy television episodes. 144 episodes first broadcast from 1997-2003
- Angel television episodes 110 episodes first broadcast from 1999-2004.
- Buffy comics. These were published by Dark Horse, originally in comic format but then gathered into volumes of trade paperbacks. They were published from 1998 until 2004. A small number of Buffy comics written by members of Mutant Enemy Productions are sometimes considered canon by fans. The comic The Origin has been described by Whedon as "pretty much... canon". Dark Horse plan to resume Buffy comics some time in 2006-7 which will be written by Whedon himself.
- Tales of the Vampires trade paperback stories. This comprises an anthology of short stories written by Joss Whedon, Jane Espenson, and other writers of the Buffy TV shows. Each story tells the tale of one or more Whedonverse vampires.
- Tales of the Slayers trade paperback stories. This is an anthology of short stories written by Joss Whedon, Jane Espenson, and others. Like the prose short stories, each of these surrounds a different slayer from the past.
- Tales of the Slayer prose short stories. Four volumes of this series has been released. Each contains a number of short stories surrounding the mythology of past slayers. Volume 2 contains stories by Jane Espenson and Rebecca Rand Kirshner. Volume 4 contains a story by Jane Espenson.
