I have replaced the previous text of this article with the OED definition. The mention of burning down the buccan wasn't referenced. The reference to "some American Indians" is too vague to be meaningful. The Levi-Strauss material is not directly related to the device.

As it stands, the article is not encyclopedic. If encyclopedic content can't be found, it should go to Wiktionary. --Macrakis 07:49, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
