Buckhannon River

The Buckhannon River is a tributary of the Tygart Valley River, about 47 mi (76 km) long,[1] in north-central West Virginia in the United States.[2] Via the Tygart Valley, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River.

[edit] Headwaters and course
It is formed in Upshur County at the community of Alexander by the confluence of the Left Fork Buckhannon River[3] and the Right Fork Buckhannon River,[4] both of which rise in southwestern Randolph County and flow generally northward. From there the Buckhannon flows generally northward in a meandering course to the city of Buckhannon, then turns northeastwardly into southwestern Barbour County, where it joins the Tygart Valley River near the community of Carrollton.[2]
