Buchanan High School is located in the Clovis Unified School District in Clovis, California. It was founded in 1991 and its grades are 9-12. Buchanan has a 7th and 8th grade middle school, Alta Sierra Intermediate. Currently, about 3,000 students attend BHS. Their mascot is the Bears. The school got its name from Dr. Floyd Buchanan, who was the superintendent and helped build up Clovis Unifed and help pass the many bonds needed to fund the schools in Clovis.
[edit] Feeder patterns
Buchanan has many feeder schools, and is one of two educational centers in Clovis Unified. It contains Garfield (K-6), Alta Sierra (7-8), and Buchanan (9-12). Buchanan has great sports facilities. It has a level 1 track (the type used in the olympics) that is usually open to the community for jogging. Buchanan High School also contains eleven fully-lit baseball diamonds and a football stadium that rivals most colleges. Students from Buchanan can go to CART (Center for Advanced Research and Technology) as either a junior or a senior.
