[edit] History
Bryne was founded as Thime Station, reflecting its location along the railroad Jærbanen going from Stavanger to Egersund. The small village was one of many popping up around the new stations on the railroad finalized in 1878. A new chapel was soon built (Saron, 1878), as well as a store, different industries and a diary. And new industries related to agriculture grew up, producing ploughs, mowers and harwesting equipment for gras. Many years later, the first excavator in Europe with complete hydraulics transmission of power was developed by the two brothers Kristian and Ingebret Søyland (1949), and they named the excavator Brøyt (Trademark). Gradually, Bryne developed into becoming a regional education center, with diary school in 1906, National Grammar School ("Rogaland Landsgymnas") in 1924 and later also vocational school. In 1921 the name of Thime Station was changed to «Bryne» by referendum. Bryne has gone through a rapid expansion to become the biggest rural area on Jæren, and got the town status in 2001.
