[edit] "T-Shirt Incident"

On April 6, 2005, while participating in the Minuteman Project, Barton apprehended an illegal alien crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. The potential illegal immigrant claimed to have been lost in the area for two days, following which Barton gave him some cereal and milk to eat while the immigration authorities were on their way to arrest him. In the process, he became controversial because he photographed and videotaped the illegal alien holding a custom-made shirt with the writing, "Bryan Barton caught me crossing the border and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."
