Bryan is a first name of Irish origin. Brought to England by the Breton companions of William the Conqueror, this name is originally derived from the Irish word for hill. Popular variant of the original Irish name Brian (with the same pronunciation), and a very common first name in Ireland as well as many English speaking countries.
