Brush border

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brush border is the ciliated surface of pseudostratified columnar epithelium found in the small intestine tract.

The cilia, hair-like structures, in the small intestines are called villi. This is where absorption takes place.

Brush borders are also found in the kidney, and are useful in distinguishing the proximal tubule (which possesses the brush border) from the distal tubule (which does not).
