Bruno, Duke of Saxony
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brun (German Braun and Latin Bruno; died 2 February 880) was a Saxon count, and possibly duke of Saxony. He was the elder son of Liudolf, progenator of the Liudolfing Dynasty and described as dux orientalis Saxonum, duke of East Saxony. It is possible that Brun was dux totius Saxonum, duke of all Saxony.
He died, along with several other Saxon noblemen, in a battle against the Vikings on February 2, 880.
According to legend, Brun is the founder of Brunswick and ancestor of the Brunonen, counts of Brunswick.
