Bruce Broughton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bruce Broughton (born March 8, 1945 in Los Angeles, California) is a film, video game, and television soundtrack composer who has composed several highly acclaimed soundtracks over his extensive career, including Homeward Bound and Silverado, as well as the video game Heart of Darkness (game). Silverado earned him an Academy Award nomination, though he lost the Oscar to Out of Africa. He has won ten Emmy awards.[1]

His music is characterized by frequent use of ethnic instruments and heavy use of leitmotif, often repeating a particular set of notes at different tempos and with different instruments.

He has long been a client of Walt Disney Pictures and has scored several of their animated features. Many consider his score for The Rescuers Down Under (1990), which was modeled heavily on John Williams' music for the Indiana Jones trilogy, to be one of the best animated film scores of all time.[citation needed] The animated film scores produced by Hans Zimmer in the 1990s, most notably The Lion King, bear heavy resemblance to Broughton's earlier work.[citation needed]
