[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for all the R&B Additions CJC47 16:33, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I got a problem.

I've got some 15-year-old new user (User:Jack Daily, User contributions) who is one of the (apparently many) people who mistake R&B artists and music for hip hop artists and music (example: wanting to identify Usher, Brandy, etc. as hip-hop artists). Can you just do me a favor and keep a look out for his edits, while I try to talk to him? --FuriousFreddy 12:18, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

Ok, Freddy, I see what I can do with those artists. -- BrothaTimothy 12:23, 5 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jackson 5

I'm probalby stating the obvious, but I'm going to nominate it at FAC. It lost out the first time (the editors wanted to learne more about the Jacksons not named "Michael" in this article, instead of having to click to a new page), but I think the article is great now. Thanks for all your help with the page and especially all those songs & album pages. Peace. --FuriousFreddy 19:35, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

I see, but I was about to edit some of that stuff because first, some of the names are misspelled, and some dates in the timeline, like on their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame page, it says the Jacksons first performed at the Apollo in June 1967 and Gladys Knight insisted to Berry Gordy to sign them but he refused to. Yeah it's a great article, you must've added some stuff too, LOL, but yeah, other than that, I don't see no problem. Peace out. -- BrothaTimothy 19:42, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

Yeah. The date I had came from an article I read here: [1]. I know I'm a bad speller, so I just ran the entire article through Microsoft Word spell check (lol). BTW, I just made this: Template:Jackson5. You can add it to a J5/Jacksons-related page by typing: "{{jackson5}}" at the bottom right before the categories. --FuriousFreddy 20:04, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Cool! I guess you added the MJ template too. LOL And I see where you got the other date from. And I'll try to do that (i.e., the template), thanks. -- BrothaTimothy 21:32, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
I'd say to just use the MJ one for the MJ articles, adn the J5 one for the J5 articles. The only overlap would be on the Michael Jackson page. --FuriousFreddy 23:51, 20 August 2005 (UTC)
    • Got ya! I see what you mean by that -- BrothaTimothy 24:10, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)

...is nominated as a featured article candidate. Is there anything you think could be added, and what do you think of the article itself? --FuriousFreddy 21:42, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Oh for real? Lemme check it out, first. Thanks for that because I saw it one time and was like "WOW!" But I'll check it and see if it needs anymore added on it. -- BrothaTimothy 24:08, 29 September 2005 (UTC)
    • No, that article is well-done. You done said everything that happened during that period! Wow! -- BrothaTimothy 24:14, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pop singer fancruft!

I'm at my wit's end in trying to deal with the glut of heavily biased and infactual articles on Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, and several other pop singers. The editors' actions in making all of these articles have gone unchecked, and are establishing bad precedents that are steadily decreasing NPOV coverage of music in the WIkipedia. I have talked to one of them until I was blue in the face (and had wasted an entire Friday evening) to no avail; he thinks I'm "jealous" of "his" articles.

Man, I'm sick of the crap. Why are we sitting here writing all these articles, when these other folks are up in here gushing about every achievement Mariah Carey and them have ever done. Normally, I wouldn't care, but the problem became an issue when seperate Mariah articles for I'll Be There" and such began popping up. --FuriousFreddy 06:22, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Point-of-view language.

What's up, man; I've been meaning to have this conversation with you for a while. Be careful about using language that singifies a point-of-view (a bias, a favoritism, a dislike, etc.) Wikipedia articles have to adhere to the neutral point of view policy, and I've seen a lot of cases where you'll say things like "fantastic", "smash success", etc and so on. I've been spending time re-wording a lot of the articles, and I just wanted to give you a heads up, since I've got Mariah Carey fancruft pushers calling Jackson 5 articles out for containing POV when I raise the issue about their fancruft, fangushing, and far-biased writing.

Thanks. --FuriousFreddy 23:08, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I definitely got ya. ;) Thanks for the advice. --BrothaTimothy 21:14, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:African diaspora notice board

I just started this, and I'd like you to join. Happy editing! --FuriousFreddy 19:03, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] infobox color

Studio album infoboxes are always orange. See Wikipedia: WikiProject Albums for the full list of color codes. --FuriousFreddy 08:17, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Oh ok. LOL :) I'll check that out. Thanks. -- BrothaTimothy 12:00, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MPG

All I ever do is run an internet search, cross my fingers, and hope for the best. Only a few times have I actually had to scan an album cover (Dance to the Music, and Temptations Live! are both my own). When you upload them, just select "album cover" in the licsencin box, and it will add the right tag. In the "summary" box, you should write the name of the album (link it to the article). Were there any in particular you wanted to start with? The main article could use one or two more pics, but we also need several for the album articles and (where/if covers exist for them, you know how Motown was...lol) the singles. --FuriousFreddy 23:28, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Ok, I see. And usually, I check under the search for Amazon and I think pictures of singles can be find when you google it or search under Yahoo! They're there (the pictures for Marvin Gaye albums and singles). I'll see about this tho, thanks. --BrothaTimothy 23:45, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem RE: Image:Janet-jackson2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Janet-jackson2.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: {{GFDL}}.
  • The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
    • Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See here for images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.

P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. Extraordinary Machine 16:00, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] References for Janet Jackson

BrothaTimothy, can you explain on Talk:Janet Jackson why you keep removing the {{unreferenced}} tag from the article? Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 23:44, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Vandellas.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Vandellas.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 22:52, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. -- Funky Monkey  (talk)  17:01, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Recent rash of Stevie Wonder songs

Why don't you put all of them on one page instead of 50 seperate pages? Just a thought. --Slyder PilotE@ 03:17, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stevie Wonder stuff.

Going through and doing cleanups and whatnot. Just a heads-up: we can't call Stevie WOnder a "great" (even though he is); it violates the NPOV policy. --FuriousFreddy 17:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Michael jackson

You have added incorrect information to the Michael jAckson article. ATV publishing was not called Sony/ATV until later on when he merged it with Sony, it was at the time of purchase ATV publishing, your editing is incorrect and not based on facts.--88.105.101.98 00:26, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Disambiguous links

You recently created a number of articles related to Diana Ross in those articles you linked to Rock and American. Both of these links are to disambiguation pages which should not be linked to. In the future if you could link to [[Rock music|Rock]] and [[United States|American]] that would be great. Thanks! --Bobblehead 22:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit Summary Request

I have noted that you edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky or even vandalizing. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini 06:17, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:IWantYou45.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:IWantYou45.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Diana Ross page

I don't know what's up with that Thomas Lewis dude, but I didn't see nothing wrong in the edited Diana Ross page. I don't like seeing lines like "no international pop icon escape controversies" and blah, blah, blah... I bet he's the same dude who wrote "The Diva Ascends" and all of that. Yo, how can we find a way around this article to be both a musical evaluation of Diane and also a look at many issues that have had Diane at fault like the J5 drama and the Supremes' drama. Holla at your boy if you can. -- BrothaTimothy 06:17 (UTC).

I'm afraid there is nothing much we can do except for contributing to the article and reverting vandalisms and similar edits. Entries about popular artists are always going to face these kinds of problems, so I'll just hope common sense will eventually get to these people. - chsf 13:57, 2006-10-13 (UTC)

[edit] album infoboxes

hey, I noticed you've been making album pages, which is great. One thing I would encourage you not to do is use a subst template. Instead, use the one found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Infobox. It's easier to fill in, and easier to update later. Cheers. --Alcuin 03:08, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
