[edit] Welcome
A warm welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you've contributed to Sweden-related topics, so perhaps you might be interested in the Swedish Wikipedians' notice board. It's intended as an information hub for Wikipedians with interest in and/or knowledge of Swedish topics. It aims to keep track of ongoing debates and votes relating to Swedish articles, and as a place to list "weak spots", in order to attract the attention of someone knowledgeable in a specific area. If you find it interesting, you can add your signature at the bottom of the page and put it on your watchlist.
By the way, I've put Mijailovic, too, in his category the proper way. Note that, in addition to what R. S. Shaw says above, there is one more thing to keep in mind when you add a page to a category: in order to get the Category page sorted by last names, you should add "|Lastname, Firstname" befor the closing brackets. (I often forget it myself, and people will not blame you if you do, but there's no reason not to strive for perfection, right?) Like this:
- [[Category:Swedish criminals|Mijailovic, Mijailo]]
Hope to see you around. Happy editing! / Alarm 14:07, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
- Note to non-Swedes: The following post only contains an introduction to some Wikipedia basics. There is no discussion on specific content. However, I will translate it on request.
Alarm 23:19, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Redirect syntax
Hello there - thanks for setting up redirects to The Man on the Roof; it might help to know that you can get them to work automatically using this syntax on the page you want to act as a redirect:
#REDIRECT [[The Man on the Roof]]
That's all you need to do; the software will take care of the rest. I hope that's useful! Loganberry (Talk) 15:05, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] LPMCOTW
Hi,
have a look at Wikipedia:Leftist Parties and Movements Collaboration of the Week. --Soman 20:17, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Peer review?
I think your articles on Swedish socialists are very good, and I think you should consider taking a couple of them to peer review to get some input (you can still continue doing whatever you were planning to do with them while they are there), and eventually to nominate them for featured article status. What do you you think? I'd suggest beginning with Ture Nerman. Tupsharru 11:39, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the encouragement on my articles about Swedish socialists. What I’m doing with these guys is that I’m reading their autobiographies, one by one, and as I read I write new info for the wiki articles. I’m basically done with Ture Nerman, and right now I’m in the middle of Zeth Höglund’s 3 volume autobiography. After that I will read the 3 volume autobiography of Karl Kilbom and then the 2 volume autobiography of Fredrik Ström, and finally the much shorter autobiography of Anton Nilson. So these articles will grow. When I’m done with that, which of course will take a while, I have a newly published thick book on the early Swedish Communist Movement by historian Aleksander Kan, which will help fill in some stuff and maybe give a little more critical input on some of it. Bronks 14 November 2005.
-
- Make sure you insert detailed references in the articles, as that will be expected when it comes to making them featured articles. I also don't know if you have all the books, but it is something to consider in time if you have borrowed some of them and won't have access to them later. Tupsharru 18:37, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
Yopohari 14:42, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

- Yopohari, you should be more careful about calling other people vandals when they obviously are not. Tupsharru 18:14, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Take a look at User talk:Jeff Fenstermacher. I'm not sure what is going on here... Tupsharru 20:31, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Red Army Song
the song you are speaking about is usually referred to by its lines: either "Красная армия всех сильней" (the red army is the strongest) or its first line "Белая армия, чёрный барон" (White Army, Black Baron). Both foreign links you mentioned talk about another piece, the instrumental "March of the Red Army" by Reinhold Glière (ru: Глиэр). Sorry, I have no time to write more at the moment. mikka (t) 20:16, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry I was not reading the swedish version carefully. It says that the norvegian text is based in the german version. Also indeed, the German text fits the melody of "the red army is the strongest", so it is quite possible that the German version is mistaken, because Gliere's rhythmic structure is quite different. I will check this later. (German version is definitely has an error: Gliere marsh was written in 1924) mikka (t) 01:14, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. Confirmed. I downloaded the German song. Its music is "Красная армия всех сильней". I notified the German wiki: de:Diskussion:Die Arbeiter von Wien. mikka (t) 04:46, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Natalie Portman
Hey mate. I know that you prefer the images in the career section to the right, but I reckon it looks kind of silly, in that, text floats in between gaps and it looks kinda messy. Do you reckon we could give the other way a go for a while, see what other people think? Anyway, I updated a lot of the text in the Career section and plan to do the same for some of the other paragraphs as well. Also what do you reckon about the filmography? I think the huge table sort of detracts from the article..anyway Im rambling, I know your a regular at the NP page, I might propose some changes on the NP talk page. Anyway, think about changing the images around, get other peoples opinions and so on. Seeya. Forever young 20:54, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- Haha. I promise that the image in the introduction will not be touched! That image is actually really great, I think it's perfect there. Forever young 21:14, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Palme.castro.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Palme.castro.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

[edit] Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising
The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:29, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Comintern members
Hi, I have proposed (on the talk page for the cat) a renaming. "Members" is akward - the word makes sense for Parties. Could we rename it to "Comintern people" or "Comintern activists"? Dahn 14:34, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Bronks, I don't know which template to use. Could you help me? Dahn 15:05, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks again. But we might get static from admins on this one: we were not supposed to do it this way. That's why I had tried to find the template, warning, etc. Frankly, I think that red tape serves no purpose in this case, but we still may get scolded. Dahn 15:30, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request for edit summary
Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 21% for major edits and 10% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 17:31, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Update on French Turn and Max Shachtman
I thought you might like appreciate a quick Update on French Turn and Max Shachtman; you've recently contributed there and you might have seen that a moderation was attempted on some disputed edits made by User:Jacrosse. He agreed to the moderation but then did not take part in it. It agreed to delete some unsupported and referenced claims (basically, that Shachtman's current, far from fragementing and collapeing into cold-war social democarcym actually effected a Leninist takeover, both of US social democracy and then of US neo-conseratism. At this point Jacrosse is engaging in obvious acts of vandalism without even beginning to comment on the Talk pages. Perhaps Jacrosse will sit down to Talk, however it seems unlikely. Arbitration may be on the cards. If you can spare a little time over the next week or two, I would appreciate it if you could pop into Talk:French Turn or Talk:Max Shachtman. Your contribution has been very valuable and, of course, the danger is that all parties in this dispute get tangled up and lose our way towards improving the entries. Thanks for the help you've already given. --Duncan 17:10, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Astor hälsar...
Hej Bronks! Astorr ;-)
[edit] Category:Russian communists
Hi, Bronks. I've moved Category:Old Bolsheviks in here, as a sucategory, and erased all duplication within the article. I figured it is safe to call them all "Russian", since they were citizens of Imperial/Soviet Russia (a centralized state), no matter what their actual ethnicity was (which I suppose was the source of your reticence in placing all Old Bolsheviks in "Russian Communists"). I have also included Mayakovsky in "Old Bolsheviks": even though his article does not state it, I assume he joined the Bolsheviks before October. However, I might be wrong. [edit] Image of trotsky
Hi
I can see that you a while ago uploaded a image of Trotsky (see it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Trotsky_militant.jpg).
I need a better version (better dpi) because I need to print it. Can you help me with that?
Best regards

[edit] Portman Image
Well as much as people would like it to stay, its a violation of fair-use if there is a public-domain or commons image available to use. Sorry man. Cvene64 12:56, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Lenin article
Thanks for your feedback! I try to make the articles as neutral as possible, presenting all the facts. These techniques were pretty much institutionalized in Russia long before the revolution; Lenin just continued the existing system. Kwertii 00:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

There's already List of people who have been pied, please don't revive the category as it has already been through a deletion process. -Obli (Talk)? 21:33, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Yetta Barsh Shachtman
If you cannot supply good reason why she deserves a separate article, it will be tagged again for speedy deletion. I cannot promise that the next person who follows the speedy tag will be so willing to cut you slack as I was. Since there is no link to the article, not even from that for the man you allege is her husband (which oddly does not even mention that he was ever married), there is nothing to suggest that she even deserves mention anywhere on Wikipedia, much less her own article. Might I suggest you visit Clusty and do some expanding of that article before it gets retagged? HTH HAND —Phil | Talk 15:11, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ali Esbati, a Stockholmian!
Hi! I reverted your removal of the Stockholmians category on the article on Ali Esbati. The reason I stated in the talk page reads as such:
- Ali Esbati can most definitely be categorized as a Stockholmian. Definition on the category page:
- This category refers to people who were born and/or grew up in Stockholm, hence have the Swedish Capital as their hometown. The category doesn’t include people who moved to Stockholm at an adult age, or only lived in the city for a short time.
- As he moved there at the age of ten, I would deem that he grew up in Stockholm. It is most definitely his hometown. Jobjörn 22:45, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
I hope you're OK with that. Best regards, Jobjörn 22:50, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay, maybe you're right... Bronks 10:55, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Yxa.blod.Keira.Knightley.JPG
Please do not remove the fairusedisputed tag without providing the mandatory detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the image, Image:Yxa.blod.Keira.Knightley.JPG, as required by the license. --Yamla 15:33, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- You said: "I added the source you asked for. Why did you delete it then...?"
-
- Okay, well the image is still missing a detailed fair-use rationale for each of its uses. Given that it is a promotional photo, it may only be used to promote the movie. That makes its use in King Arthur (film) okay (so long as you add the detailed fair-use rationale) and possibly the use in Keira Knightley as well as that article specifically discusses the movie. Remember, though, that the image cannot be used simply to illustrate the person depicted. Also, every single use requires a detailed fair-use rationale. --Yamla 17:15, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Yxa.blod.Keira.Knightley.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Yxa.blod.Keira.Knightley.JPG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 12:20, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Brunkeberg Tunnel
I don't understand why people put up articles with just one sentence. I think it behooves you to write some text about who built the tunnel, why it was built, interesting history, etc. It appears that the page was created simply to show a neat photograph that you took! Its not an article, its like a factoid in the U.S.A. Today newspaper. george 12:25, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] August Spångberg
I look forward to seeing the August Spångberg piece improve everyday. Thanks for your knowledgable edits!
I do not have the newspaper name/date for the obituary. My guess it was published either Stockholm or Charlottenberg around June 22, 1987. I think we need to add a source needed message, unless you have access to these papers and can provide a source. I was in Sweden last month but did not get off the train in Charlottenberg on our way from Oslo to Stockholm, so I did not get a chance to see if his papers were in the library. There is someone who knows August backwards and forwards regarding his political activities: Håkan Blomqvist at the Institute of Contemporary History, Södertörn University College. Have you talked with him?
Diogenes99 18:22, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have read Håkan Blomqvist's book about Nils Flyg, that's all I know of him... Bronks 19:07, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Blomqvist teaches a course using Spångberg as a central figure. I emailed him some audio of Spångberg speaking. You'll have to expalin to me why his last name was Spångberg and not Augustsson. Diogenes99 02:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
68.53.97.54 01:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC) On the religion of August, when he visited my genadparents and parents in America in 1955 he recorded Christmas songs and wished everyone back home a merry Christmas. Is there a source for his religion?
- Spångberg was a member of the Swedish communist party. If he had been a crhistian he would have been expelled from that party! But that doens't mean he couldn't enjoy christmas. Bronks 09:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. When I know enough Swedish to ead his book, perhaps I will know more and be able to write a paragraph on his major legislation. I appreciate all your tweaks and work on the Spangberg page. Diogenes99 17:50, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you too. I like the work you have put into it, making it a good article. Bronks 20:21, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Drickaistudio.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Drickaistudio.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Balabanoffffffffffff.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Balabanoffffffffffff.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
