[edit] Template picture

So far I like the Cyclone best. Ebbetts Field creates a bit of an impression as if the template is about historical neighborhoods. ~ trialsanderrors 00:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad you noticed and commented. I think the Cyclone picture is great, but it was so hard to figure out what it was at the small size of the template. The old picture of a Park Slope neighborhood winter scene just didn't say "Brooklyn", as the Empire State Building or Times Square does for Manhattan, or the Unisphere for Queens. I'd love to find a pic of the Parachute Jump at Coney Island as an icon to represent Brooklyn, especially now that there's the whole program of lighting it up at night. it's maybe not immediately obvious that it's the Cyclone, but it creates interesting abstract curves that invite the viewer to click on the picture. I did a pretty extensive search when I set up the pictures for the template but Brooklyn was the hardest. The Parachute Jump would be a good one, the other one I was thinking of was Woodie Guthrie's house on the Mermaid Avenue cover. But I couldn't find any good pictures for either of them. ~ trialsanderrors 01:21, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
The current pic is a view towards Brooklyn of the Brooklyn Bridge. I had the Parachute Jump on for a while, but I don't think it's as iconic, and it doesn't have the mass to really get the point across. The Cyclone was a good idea, but I think the picture we had was less than ideal. A picture of folks going over the top of a hill on the ride would be much better. Let's play with it and see what sticks. Alansohn 01:49, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
