Brown, Shipley & Co.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brown, Shipley & Co. is a long-established British private bank, based in London. It provides investment management, pensions and associated advisory services for private, institutional and corporate clients.
The partnership started in 1825, between William Brown and Joseph Shipley. The business operated in both Great Britain and the United States, and financed merchants who were shipping goods between Britain, the United States and other parts of Europe and the Americas. Over the years, the trading activities ceased and the merchant banking activities grew. A London office was established in 1863.
In 1918 the partnership between Brown Shipley and its American partners Brown Brothers & Co. ended, although each continued to act as agents for the other for some time. In 1946, Brown Shipley became a limited company.
Brown Shipley is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Kredietbank S.A. Luxembourgeoise (KBL), itself a susidiary of KBC Group NV. As well as its London head office, it also has offices in Harrogate, Jersey, Leatherhead, Leeds and Manchester.
