Brown's Town
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brown's Town is an inland conurbation in St Ann parish, Jamaica. One of only a few important inland towns on the island, it became significant as a market centre in the mid-nineteenth century following the abolition of slavery. It is located near Silver Sands, the distance between Silver Sands to Brown's Town is about 19.8 miles/35.85km. Brown's Town with its hills and valleys has a very different look from the Jamaica in advertising posters. Some would say that for tourist Brown's Town is a more realistic view of Jamaica. As it is not visited often by tourists, the visitors there are not as subjected to the tourist prices usually charged to visitors. One of the island's traditional elite high schools, St Hilda's Diocesan High School for Girls also is located there.
