Brotherhood of Maccabeus

The Brotherhood of Maccabeus is a covert organization found in the Honorverse a fictional universe created by David Weber.

The Brotherhood of Maccabeus was fifth column working for Masada on Grayson. The origin of the Brotherhood is unknown, but its first leader was Oliver Mayhew, a close relation of the Protector and also a member of Grayson's cabinent. After Oliver's death, the position was passed onto his son, Jared. The Brotherhood's goal was to assassinate the Protector and his heirs, in order to ascend to the Protectorship. The assassination was to take place at a time when war between Masada and Grayson was brewing. If successful, Maccabeus was then to take control of the government in order to negotiate a peace agreement with Masada. The Brotherhood believed that success in this area would allow Maccabeus to retain control, and appoint like minded individuals to positions of power in order to brainwash the Graysons into accepting the Masadan mindset. Eventually Grayson and Masada were to unite under a single government.
