Brooks Eckerd Pharmacy is a chain of approximately 2,000 pharmacies operating in 18 states on the east coast. It is the 4th largest drugstore chain in the country. The company was created through the combination of Brooks Pharmacy and Eckerd Pharmacy.

Brooks Eckerd Pharmacy is currently a unit of the Quebec-based Jean Coutu Group. The corporate headquarters is located in Rhode Island. The Brooks Eckerd Pharmacy President is Michel Coutu. Brooks Eckerd Pharmacy employs over 46,000 persons at its stores, distribution centers in Dayville, CT, Bohemia and Liverpool, NY, Langhorn, PA, Charlotte, NC and Newnan, GA and corporate headquarters in Warwick, R.I.

Today Brooks Eckerd Pharmacy is introducing new prototype stores that feature generous patient counseling space and state-of-the-art pharmacy services. Modernized store designs are also planned for existing Brooks Pharmacy and Eckerd Pharmacy corporate outlets.

On August 23, 2006, the Wall Street Journal annouced that Rite Aid would be buying the Eckerd Pharmacy and Brooks Pharmacy chains from the Quebec-based Jean Coutu Group for US$3.4 billion. Rite Aid announced in the deal that the Brooks Eckerd name will be retired in favor of the more nationally-known Rite Aid banner.
