Brookfield, Ohio

Brookfield, Ohio, is a small town on the Pennsylvania/Ohio border in the United States. Brookfield is a township with no zoning and low taxes. During the steel boom industry within an 85 mile area in the tri-state, in the areas of high school sports, was know as the "Steel Valley Conference" this area included the following cities:

Sharon, Pa.
Sharpsville, Pa

The main counties participating in the "Steel Valley Conference" were: Trumbull County, Ohio and Mahoning County, Ohio. Major sports in the area at the time were: Baseball, Football, Basketball and Golf. Track and Field was also popular, but the Brookfield Board of Education decided to eliminate the T&F from all Brookfield Schools in 1973, though it has since been restarted in the Middle and High school.

The steel companies in the area were: Sharon Steel(USS,) General American Transportation Corporation(GATX) Jennings Manufacturing, Packard Electric, Howell Industries, all located with in a five to ten mile radius of one another. Youngstown Sheet and Tube and others were west of Brookfield.
