"Bron-Yr-Aur" is a two minute acoustic guitar instrumental song by English rock band Led Zeppelin. The song was recorded by Jimmy Page during the sessions for the album, Led Zeppelin III, but was eventually released in 1975 on Physical Graffiti. It is a reflective and relaxed piece, and one of the last acoustic songs recorded by the band. It was rarely performed live, but can be heard on Led Zeppelin bootleg recordings. It was named after Bron-Yr-Aur, a cottage in Gwynedd, Wales where the members of Led Zeppelin spent time during the recording of Led Zeppelin III. ('Bron-Y-Aur Stomp' is a different song from Led Zeppelin III.)
The song features a characteristic open-C6 tuning (C-A-C-G-C-E) and is played on a 1971 Martin D-28 [1]
Bron-Yr-Aur is played in the film The Song Remains the Same, at the point when Led Zeppelin are shown driving through New York City in a limousine, and a snippet of the song can also be heard in the film Almost Famous.
[edit] Trivia
- This is a 2-minute acoustic guitar instrumental written by Jimmy Page.
- Bron-yr-Aur (pronounced "Bron-rar") is a place in Wales where Page and Plant went after a tough tour in the US. They needed to put another album together, and decided to go there for a change of scenery. They ended up writing many of the songs for Led Zeppelin III on the trip.
- Some minor string squeaks and small mistakes were left in to keep the live feel. Jimmy Page liked it that way.
- The title is spelled differently from "Bron-Y-Aur," as in "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," another Zeppelin song, due to a misprint on the album cover.
- Led Zeppelin played this live during their early to mid 1970 tour to preview the third album, then it was dropped entirely from setlists.
