[edit] History

The name itself comes from a Bromölla, which translated to Bridge Mill, one or more mills used at least from the 17th to the 19th century, adjacent to a small river. The city arms depict a bridge over a river, and a water wheel symbolizing the mill.

The town only consisted of a few houses until it began to grow about 100 years ago around a newly established limestone quarry, leading to the establishment of several ceramics industries.
